Kiryas Yoel Social Media Threat
By Daily Monroe Staff
New Square's Ershte Hilf Services notified the Ramapo Police Department yesterday about a social media threat. The Ramapo Police Department, along with the office of the Town Supervisor, took immediate action to investigate and provide extra security at last night's wedding in New Square.
The post, which included a map of New Square and Kiryas Joel with the words "ZIONISTS LIVE HERE" alongside references to weapons, prompted immediate action from law enforcement.
Ramapo PD's Detective assigned to the Joint Terrorism Task Force, in collaboration with the Rockland County Sheriff’s Intelligence Center and the New York State Police Intelligence Center, swiftly initiated an investigation. Within 90 minutes, authorities identified the individual responsible through the Rockland Sheriff’s Intelligence Center.
The subject, described as a middle-aged resident of Rockland County, was located and interviewed by Ramapo PD Detectives. Following the assessment, it was determined that while there was no immediate threat to the community, the individual was transported to a local hospital for a mental health evaluation due to the content of the post.
Currently, no criminal charges have been filed, but Ramapo PD continues to monitor the situation closely. The case will undergo further review by the Rockland County Threat Assessment Management Team. Ramapo PD remains in contact with Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) resources as part of their ongoing efforts to ensure public safety.
Authorities urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity or concerning posts to law enforcement immediately.
